The mechatronic transmission module holds the solenoids and sensors that carry out the shift commands from the control module, tying the transmission's mechanical shifting parts to its electronics. Air leaks at the housing, or moisture that gets in and damages the solenoids, are the usual trouble spots on a module like this.
