The Eaton Fuller K-3796 or K3796 countershaft bearing kit is listed in our parts manual as item 3 of the countershaft assembly in the FS-5406N and FS-6406N, one kit per assembly. It also appears in the Kits and Assemblies group of both units.
The countershaft bearings carry the countershaft inside the case and keep it running parallel to the main shaft, so torque moves through the gear train evenly instead of binding. A tired bearing usually shows up as a steady whine or growl in the gears, extra heat in the case and fine metal in the oil. Pitted gear teeth often go along with a bearing that no longer holds the shaft in alignment.
