G1697C is a Timken clutch release thrust ball bearing assembly. The release bearing is what the clutch fork presses against the clutch fingers when the pedal goes down, which frees the clutch disc so the transmission can change gears. It carries no engine torque. Its only job is to make disengagement possible, and it has to turn freely while loaded. A worn one often shows itself as noise when the pedal is pressed, although a fork, pilot bearing or alignment problem can sound similar. A genuine Timken part from Pro Gear and Transmission.
