The Bendix 288323N pressure protection valve (PR-4) is a normally closed pressure control valve for air brake circuits. It stays shut until supply pressure builds high enough, then passes air on to the delivery side. If one reservoir circuit fails, the valve closes on its own at its preset pressure, so the healthy circuit keeps its air for braking. It can also hold back the filling of auxiliary reservoirs so the main brake circuit builds pressure quickly. The closing setting is fixed rather than adjustable.
