The 281 Series is an evolution of the 280 Series, with a ductile iron bearing cap rated 117% stronger than gray iron, an o-ring sealing configuration between the housing and bearing cap to improve clamp load, and an 80% increase in clutch pack steel disc thickness to resist premature tooth wear. Nine speed ratios cover both low and high ranges. A Wet Spline Lubrication option delivers 7 to 10 times greater shaft life. Rotatable cast-iron flanges reduce interference issues, and the SmartStart feature reduces shock load at startup for select applications. Electronic Overspeed Control (EOC) protects driven equipment.
