A rotochamber is an air-operated actuator: air pressure acts on a diaphragm that pushes a rod outward to apply the brake, and a return spring brings the parts back when the air is released. On a drum brake the push rod works the slack adjuster and cam, which is how air pressure becomes braking force at the wheel end. A chamber that is wearing out can show air leaks, dents, corrosion or a bent push rod, and a leaking diaphragm hisses when the brakes are applied. Sold by Pro Gear and Transmission.
