The Chelsea 281 Series Power Take-Off, part number 281GMFJW-D5RY or 281GMFJWD5RY, is a hydraulically shifted hot-shift PTO engineered for automatic transmissions with a 10-bolt aperture, including Allison transmissions. An evolution of the 280 Series, the 281 features a ductile iron bearing cap rated 117% stronger than gray iron, plus an o-ring sealing configuration between the housing and bearing cap to improve clamp load and reduce the damaging vibrational effects common with modern engine designs. The clutch pack uses steel discs that are 80% thicker than the previous design to resist premature tooth wear. Nine speed ratios cover both low and high ranges. Rotatable cast-iron flanges reduce interference clearance issues, and the positive stop for driveline outputs eliminates oil seal damage from coupling. The wet spline lubrication option extends shaft life by 7 to 10 times. Electronic Overspeed Control (EOC) protects driven equipment, and SmartStart reduces shock load at start-up.
