The one-piece cast iron housing eliminates the need for an adapter plate, reducing potential leak paths compared to multi-piece designs. Intermittent torque capacity for this series is 201-300 lb-ft (301-400 Nm), with shaft power rated at 24 HP at 500 RPM and 48 HP at 1000 RPM. The output shaft is a 1-1/4" round with key. The 489 Series shares internal parts with the Chelsea 442 Series and uses tapered bearings in place of needle bearings for greater load-bearing capability.
