Features
Constant mesh design with cast iron housing for Allison and CAT 10-bolt transmission mounting
Ductile iron bearing cap rated 117% stronger than gray iron predecessors
O-ring sealing configuration between housing and bearing cap reduces vibrational effects and improves clamp load
Single continuous duty torque rating up to 670 lb-ft, eliminating separate intermittent vs. continuous ratings
Nine speed ratios available, including low and high speeds
Rotatable cast-iron flanges reduce interference clearance issues at driveline outputs
Wet Spline Lubrication option extends output shaft life 7 to 10 times; hose included

Additional Information

The 878 Series is Chelsea's advancement of the proven 877 Series PTO platform. Improvements include an 80% increase in steel disc thickness within the clutch pack, a ductile iron bearing cap replacing the earlier gray iron design, and an upgraded O-ring seal configuration at the housing-to-bearing-cap interface. These changes directly address vibrational loads from modern and future engine designs. The 878 Series suits demanding vocational applications including snow and ice control, vacuum trucks, aerial work platforms, and refuse vehicles. Parker documents available for this series include the 267/281/288/871/878 Series Owner's Manual and the 878 Series Parts List (HY25-2871-M1/US).
