The Chelsea 272 Series Power Take-Off Assembly, part number 272XDAJX-A3RF or 272XDAJXA3RF, is a 6-bolt hot shift PTO built for medium-duty commercial truck applications including aerial, construction, towing and recovery, and water truck equipment. It ships with a 1-1/4" round output shaft with a 5/16" key and shifts via pneumatic or PowerShift (pneumatic/hydraulic) actuation. Continuous torque rating reaches 300 lb-ft (407 Nm); intermittent torque falls in the 201-300 lb-ft (401-500 Nm) range. Output power exceeds 56 HP (41-50 kW). The Chelsea 272 Series consolidates six earlier Chelsea PTO series - the 230, 231, 236, 238, 270, and 271 - into a single medium-duty platform. The series offers nine speed ratios, eighteen shift options, and a choice of direct mount or driveshaft output configurations. Direct mount variants offer an optional Wet-Spline design for extended PTO and pump shaft service life. Driveshaft output variants include the Smart Start feature for high-torque engagement conditions. The integral air control valve is built into the unit. Rotatable flanges allow flexible installation positioning.
