The 878 Series is an advancement over Chelsea's 877 Series design, featuring a ductile iron bearing cap rated 117% stronger than gray iron, an O-ring sealing configuration between the housing and bearing cap for improved clamp load, and steel clutch disc thickness increased by 80%. The cast iron housing handles continuous operation, and rotatable cast-iron flanges reduce clearance interference. A wet spline lubrication option extends shaft life 7 to 10 times.
